D1 Grand Prix @ Anaheim
Slightly late addition to the blog here.
The return of the D1 Grand Prix drift competition to American soil.
Not much to say about this one, two days worth of shooting
It was, if I dare say it, a solid ass-whoopin handed out by the Japanese drivers.
In any case, awesome to see Team Orange and their Subaru's
Track wasn't as challenging a drift course as originally predicted
Fun weekend nonetheless
Nothing like waking up in another city, covering a drift event, eating unlimited korean bbq, vietnamese coffee shop, hanging turns in the Malibu canyons, late night pho, and a LA freeway police chase to top it off.
And that was the first day.
Was also invited to the Puma store / Gumball 3000 Rally party.
I'll get that up on the next blog.

Formula Drift @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway
What's up guys. Back from Las Vegas and the Formula Drift Round....um...4 Competition.
You probably saw on FB I kept posting the ridiculous heat. It was stupid hot, highest I saw in my car was 119 degrees. I swore I saw the devil walking around cutting deals with everyone.
Anywho, this is the 4th round of competition for the Formula Drift series. I think this single event pushed my car, my cameras and myself to their limits. Even in the shade it was 114 degrees, just sitting there you'd feel your energy being sucked out of your system. I literally had to force myself to get up and start taking pictures. Thank you to the Formula D crew, ice cold water when you needed it. Thank you to the JTuned guys, chillin at the tent staying away from the sun.
Shot with :
Nikon D80 (horrible focusing in low light)
Nikon D2H (horrible high iso)
Tokina 12-24, Sigma 100-300, Nikon 18-70, Nikon SB600
Banana Boat all day sun block spray
134847548390 bottles of water
Got to the track Friday afternoon and this is what it felt like..
Gear was ready to go, but as it was a afternoon - nighttime event, I'd have a hell of a time getting the picture quality I needed...
There's a long long straight road behind Las Vegas Motor Speedway. If I had a proper car (no the Sentra is not a proper vehicle) I'd just rip it down here...
Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Fastest track in the dessert...
They were also running funny car, muscle and rocket car drag races later that evening...
My photo island for the day. Unfortunately this one didn't have a water cooler, you had to bring your own water (which I forgot) Stuck out here for 2+ hours...
(Formula D requires photogs to wear long pants if you're out on the track)
Ken Gushi in the RWD Scion tC
Matt Powers...and his ridiculous 80s rock band crew
Didn't get a picture of them but imagine a group of guys that look like they came straight out of an 80's rock band music video...long hair, tight pants and boombox radio included
Taka Aono, drift instructor extraordinaire
Tanner Foxy Foust, stunt driver, drifter V8 powered tC (winner this round)
T-Mac in the V8 powered 350Z
Chris Forsberg in his V8 powered 350z as well
Eric O'Sullivan and his RWD STi
On Sunday we were invited to the Formula D pool party at the Aliante Hotel
Really nice hotel, full bar, service etc. too damn hot to really chill...
Chasing the sun back home...
That's it for now. Might post up more pictures later on. Still pretty beat from the whole weekend. Will most likely be upgrading my equipment, they just couldn't handle shooting at night. Also, the seafood buffet at the Rio kinda sucks. $11.99 prime rib at Ellis Island isn't too awesome either. Lost $60 at the slot machines, apparently "7" "bar" "bar" doesn't win you anything. Stay tuned, model photoshoot coming up next!
